Epiotic Antiseptic Ear Cleaner for Dogs & Cats

EpiOtic is a soothing ear cleanser for cats and dogs. It helps to break down and remove excess ear wax and other debris, control bacterial growth, and keep your pet’s ears clean, fresh and healthy.

Due to their length and shape, the ear canals of cats and dogs can easily become blocked with ear wax, dirt, dead skin cells, bacteria and other debris. This means they can be prone to irritation, foul odours, and infection.

EpiOtic helps by gently cleansing the ears of debris and controlling bacteria growth with a unique blend of ingredients. These include:

• Salicylic acid to break down excess ear wax and other materials in the ear.
• Glycotechnology, a blend of sugars that stops bacteria sticking to the skin.
• Defensin Technology, a combination of natural plant extracts known to stimulate the skin barrier defense.

Follow these steps to keep your pet’s ears clean, fresh and healthy:

1. Gather your supplies. In addition to EpiOtic solution, you’ll need cotton pads or a clean towel.
2. Choose a time when your pet is relaxed and get comfortable. Sit smaller pets facing forward between your knees so you can gently hold them in place. For larger pets, you may need to sit them between yourself and the wall with their rear in the corner.
3. Calm your pet with praise, reassurance and affection before you begin.
4. Gently lift up the ear flap to expose the ear canal.
5. Squeeze the ear cleaning solution into the ear canal until the canal is completely filled.
6. Massage the base of the ear gently. This will help the solution to move around the entire ear canal, dislodging wax, debris and other build-up.
7. Your pet will want to give their head a shake to get rid of the solution so you may want to grab a towel!
8. When they’re done, use the towel to dry off their head and face.
9. Take a cotton pad and gently wipe any liquid and debris from the inner ear flap and ear canal, taking care not to go any further than an inch inside the ear. Then, repeat on the other ear.
10. Throughout the cleaning process, be sure to reward your pet for co-operative behavior with lots of praise and treats.

If your pet is reluctant to have their ears cleaned, the first thing to do is check their ears for signs of infection (pain, head shaking, warmth, swelling, blood, discharge, odour). Although EpiOptic is very gentle, cleaning the ears when infected can be uncomfortable for your pet and may need to be done by your vet. Always check in with your vet for advice.

If there are no signs of infection, your pet may simply need some help getting used to ear cleaning. Start by examining and touching their ears regularly without cleaning, before gradually introducing cotton pads or towels, and then cleaning solution.

Always show your pet any new products before using them so they can get familiar with the sights and smells. Use lots of praise, reassurance, and treats to reward co-operation.

If your pet is still anxious, scared or distressed about ear cleaning, stop and ask your vet for advice. Pushing forward can create negative associations around ear cleaning that can be hard to overcome, but your vet will be able to help.
